When and How Entrepreneurs Pivot
by Jacqueline Kirtley · Knowledge at Wharton
A Wharton podcast interview, about 31 minutes, on a multi-year field study of seven cleantech startups. Of 93 decisions that could have changed strategy, 72 changed nothing. Pivots built up gradually through small adds and exits, and were more often triggered by opportunities than problems. Empirical counterweight to practitioner frames: pivots are incremental decisions labeled in hindsight.
