Directing Actors (25th Anniversary Edition)
by Judith Weston · Michael Wiese Productions
Weston covers script analysis, casting sessions, rehearsal, and the difference between result-oriented direction and playable instruction. Directly covers the 'working with actors' half of the topic note, which almost no other filmmaking resource treats seriously — most books hand it two pages. Nothing free approaches it. The 25th anniversary edition adds chapters on directing children and expanded rehearsal material using a scene from The Matrix.
