# Unity

Unity is a widely used, cross-platform game engine for creating 2D, 3D, and virtual reality experiences. You will understand how to navigate the editor, write scripts in C#, manage assets, and deploy games to various platforms.

## Where to start

Start with Unity Learn, Unity's own free tutorial platform, where guided pathways build 2D, 3D, VR and AR scenes step by step. If you only use one resource, make it Joseph Hocking's Unity in Action, which works through complete projects including a first-person shooter, 2D platforming, UI and deployment. Once you know the editor, the O'Reilly Unity Game Development Cookbook helps with specific problems.
