# Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry examines the properties, structures, and behaviors of non-organic compounds, including metals, minerals, and organometallics. Learners will understand chemical bonding, coordination complexes, and the role of inorganic elements in industrial and biological processes.

## Where to start

Start with Principles of Chemical Science (MIT 5.111SC), Catherine Drennan's free MIT OpenCourseWare course, which assumes only high school chemistry and covers bonding, periodic trends and redox. If you only use one resource, make it Inorganic Chemistry by Gary L. Miessler and Donald A. Tarr, the standard undergraduate text on symmetry, molecular orbitals and coordination compounds. Keep Cotton and Wilkinson's Advanced Inorganic as a reference on every element.

## Available Resources

2 Books • 2 Courses • 3 Websites

## Websites

### 1. LibreTexts Inorganic Chemistry

Open-access bookshelf hosting full inorganic chemistry textbooks and modules on symmetry, molecular orbital theory, coordination complexes, ligand field theory and solid-state structure. Course-level treatment with worked problems, usable as a free substitute for a standard undergraduate text.

## Books

### 1. Inorganic Chemistry

**Author:** Gary L. Miessler, Donald A. Tarr

Standard undergraduate text built on molecular symmetry and group theory, then extending to molecular orbitals, acid-base behaviour, coordination compounds, organometallics and catalysis. Prepares students to predict structure and bonding across the periodic table.
