# Electrodynamics

Electrodynamics is the study of the interactions between electric charges, currents, and electromagnetic fields. You will understand Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves, and radiation, enabling you to analyze physical phenomena ranging from simple circuits to relativistic particle dynamics.

## Where to start

Start with Introduction to Electrodynamics by David J. Griffiths, an introductory textbook on Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves and radiation. If you only use one resource, make it Griffiths as well. When you want a more demanding treatment, move on to John David Jackson's Classical Electrodynamics.

## Books

### 1. Classical Electrodynamics

**Author:** John David Jackson

Jackson's graduate-level treatment of classical electromagnetism, the standard text for PhD qualifying courses. It covers boundary-value problems, multipoles, waveguides, radiation, special relativity and radiating charges, training readers to solve demanding electrodynamics problems with Green's functions and special functions.

### 2. Introduction to Electrodynamics

**Author:** David J. Griffiths

The standard undergraduate textbook on electromagnetism, starting with vector calculus and moving through electrostatics, magnetostatics, fields in matter, Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves, radiation and relativistic electrodynamics. Readers learn to set up and solve the field problems met in upper-level physics courses.
