### 1. FASTSim - Vehicle Powertrain Simulation Tool and Documentation

Open-source national-lab powertrain simulator with its user guide. Models battery-electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fuel-cell drivetrains over standard drive cycles to estimate energy consumption, acceleration and component sizing. Documentation explains vehicle parameterisation, drive-cycle setup and the modelling assumptions.
The one place a learner can move from equations to running numbers on a real vehicle model without a commercial licence - Argonne's Autonomie, the obvious alternative, is licensed and not free.

### 2. Battery Design - Engineering Reference from Cell to Pack

**Author:** Nigel Taylor

Working reference maintained by an automotive battery engineer, covering cell chemistries and formats, module and pack architecture, 400V versus 800V systems, busbars and interconnects, thermal management, BMS functions and contactors, with sizing calculators and benchmark data on shipping packs.
Fills the gap textbooks and MOOCs leave: pack-level mechanical and thermal integration, real benchmark numbers from shipping vehicles, and calculators. Main body of content is free; only an optional $5 glossary PDF and some benchmarking downloads are paid.

### 2. Modern Electric, Hybrid Electric, and Fuel Cell Vehicles

**Author:** Mehrdad Ehsani, Yimin Gao, Stefano Longo, Kambiz Ebrahimi

Graduate textbook on EV, hybrid and fuel-cell vehicle design: road-load and traction calculations, motor drive sizing, powertrain architectures and control strategies, energy-storage sizing, transmissions, and design optimisation. The reference an EV powertrain engineer is expected to have worked through - vehicle dynamics through motor sizing through supervisory control, all with the maths shown. Third edition, 572 pages, with worked design examples throughout.
